A Walk in Closet Design and installation That Transforms Your Day!
Dec 03, 2025
Many self-help gurus emphasize the importance of morning routines for a successful day.
However,
aspect often overlooked is the role of a well-organized closet in shaping a good morning routine. When you can easily locate your clothes and accessories, your day starts on a stress-free note, or at least the getting dressed part!
Closets play a significant role in our daily routines. They hold our clothing, shoes, and accessories, helping us start each day with ease
or, conversely,
adding stress to our mornings.
Let me take you on a journey through a custom closet installation story that transformed a cluttered and chaotic closet into a well-organized and functional space.
I've designed millions of dollars worth of custom closets over the years, and I've never taken advantage of the employee discount, which was so stupid...until today.
Well, no discount, but today, I finally got my own custom closet.
The Before
Before we dive into the installation process, let's take a step back and look at what this closet was like before the transformation. We see an empty space with a rolling rod, roughly seven linear feet of hanging space, a bunch of boxes, and lots of random clutter.
Fast forward to installation day. Eduardo, the installation expert, begins the process of turning this mundane closet into a well-organized masterpiece.
Maximizing Storage
Now, let's talk about the tips and tricks that will maximize storage in your closet. With an emphasis on functionality and organization, this custom closet is about to become a dream come true.
-
Folding Techniques: Take inspiration from Marie Kondo and fold your shirts Kon Mari way! This space-saving method will ensure that your clothes remain wrinkle-free and easily accessible. It stands the t shirts and pants upright so that they are all visible. No more digging to the bottom of the pile for your favorite t shirt and unfolding all those on top of it!
-
Shoe Storage: Store your shoes tightly, back to front, to maximize space and visibility. By doing this, the shoes take up less space and I got an extra pair per shelf! No more digging around for the perfect pair in a pile on the floor; they'll be right at your fingertips.
-
Pants over Shirts: Arrange your pants over your shirts, making it simpler to match outfits while preserving space. We naturally want to arrange our closets like we dress, shirts on top and pants below in double hanging sections. However, by putting the pants above, you create more space at eye level and make the closet feel more luxurious. It's also easier to locate and identify blouses or shirts when they aren't above your eye level. You can easily see the shoulder of each shirt.
-
Like with Like: Group similar items together. This not only makes finding what you need a breeze but also keeps your closet looking tidy. The similar size of like items allows you to move shelves, adjust rod heights to each type of clothing and maximize the storage in your closet.
-
Labeled Storage Boxes: Use labeled storage boxes or those with clear windows to store various items neatly. I use boxes with labels or clear bins to find items stored out of reach on the top shelf.
Inches Matter
In a closet, every inch counts, and this closet design takes full advantage of all the available space. Double hanging rods instantly give the closet the room to add additional features without sacrificing space. With the addition of multiple drawers, shelves and valet rods, the storage capacity is more than doubled. The closet is now a multifunctional space, offering more than just storage for clothing.
This custom closet from California Closets goes beyond being a mere storage solution. It's now a place to get dressed, stay organized, and plan your day (as far as your wardrobe goes). It simplifies your morning routine, allowing you to find what you need without the stress of searching for matching items or misplaced accessories.
A good closet becomes a vital part of your daily routine, helping you face the day with confidence and peace of mind.
This custom closet installation is a testament to the transformative power of organization and design. What was once a cluttered and chaotic closet is now a well-organized, multifunctional space that simplifies the morning routine and adds value to daily life, not to mention my resale value!.
Little things, like a well-designed closet, can make a big difference in how we start our days. So, take inspiration from this custom closet installation and turn your own closet into a space that brings peace and order to your mornings.
Best,
